Eric Kelly Returns On November 30 At URCC 24 “Uprising”

After being out for 8 months, Eric “The Natural” Kelly, is hundred percent ready and healthy to return inside the URCC ring on November 30, 2013, at URCC 24 “Uprising” as he takes on a yet to be named undefeated Chinese fighter who according to some sources, has a 6-0 record.

The news was confirmed by Eric Kelly’s manager, Chef Ro.

Chef also told us that Kelly will fly to Macau to train for his up coming fight

Kelly has long been considered as the first homegrown Filipino fighter to be signed by the UFC. But all the high hopes for Kelly were smashed when Honorio “The Rock” Banario stopped him in the 4th round of their world champioship fight at ONE FC 7 – Return of Warriors.

“The biggest mistake I made in my career was when I accepted to fight him (Banario) even though my eye injury is not completely healed”, said Kelly in a conversation with MMA Orient staff, Zike.

Now that his injury is all healed up, Kelly is pumped to redeem himself from his last fight when takes on an undefeated Chinese fighter as a main event bout of URCC 24 “Uprising”.

URCC 24 is set to go down on November 30, 2013, at the SMX Convention Center.

A heavyweight contest has been confirmed by URCC as Igor Subora, the current heavyweight champion, will defend his title for the first time against a former champion and a two-time SEA Games Wrestling Gold Medalist, Marcus Valda. This heavyweight contest is going to be interesting. A very accomplished grappler takes on a mammoth Ukranian fighter, who is on a roll.

Also, a rumored bantamweight championship match is said to take place as Team Lakay’s Dave “The Scarecrow” Galera will make his first title defense versus Submission Sport Philippines’ Reysaldo “Onyok” Transmonte.

*Update – Reliable sources confirmed that the Galera vs. Transmonte bout is off.

URCC 24 will also showcase the return of the former URCC featherweight king, Ali Khatibi. The DEFTAC standout aims to impress URCC fans after four years of not fighting inside the ring. Though his opponent is yet to be determined, Khatibi is preparing very well for his comeback fight and looks to reclaim his URCC title soon.

URCC 23 Unrivaled Fight Recap

Dave “The Scarecrow” Galera becomes new URCC Interim Bantamweight Champ

Will “The Kill” Chope is the new URCC Interim Featherweight Champ

MMA fans who attended the URCC 23 Unrivaled at the full-packed SMX Convention Center in Pasay were treated to a spectacular night of fights inside the famed URCC ring.

Dave Galera is the new URCC Interim Bantamweight Champ at URCC 23 Unrivaled

The URCC Bantamweight division of URCC crowned a new Interim Champion, as Dave “The Scarecrow” Galera defeated Red “The Filipino Bolo Punch” Romero in the third round of their main event fight.
It was a great battle between the two, as Galera had a good strategy answering the bell in the opening round like being fired straight up out of a cannon, charging straight to Romero and then went for the takedown. Romero did a great job in sweeping from his guard and this fight has become a see-saw battle, both fighters taking turns, trading vicious ground-and-pound punches and elbows in the first round. There was a  confusion in the second round when Dave Galera stood up and let go of his submission hold (RNC) for the second fight in a row, as he thought the referee had stopped the fight via a tapout by his opponent. After that, referee Joey Lepiten let the fight continue, and Galera immediately jumps back on top of Romero for a ground-and-pound until Romero successfully got another sweep for his turn to throw bombs at Galera. In the third, Galera was again successful with his takedown and this time around he made sure he got the finish as he threw unanswered punches that prompted the referee to stop the fight.

Will “The Kill” Chope is the new URCC Interim Featherweight Champion

In the Interim Featherweight title fight, Will “The Kill” Chope did a quick work on his opponent Andrew Benibe as he didn’t waste too much time to get the clinch and easily got his opponent’s back. Andrew Benibe had no answer to Chope’s grappling skills and add to that, his 6’4″ frame which all proved to be too much for Andrew Benibe to overcome. Benibe tapped out and in the process awarding the win to Will Chope via Rear naked choke in the first round to become the new Interim Featherweight champion of the URCC.

The URCC fans at SMX Convention also witnessed an action packed Bantamweight battle between Fei Guo Lin against Alvin Ramirez. Both fighters traded punches and head kicks from the very beginning. Fei Guo Lin the bigger fighter from China tried to apply pressure early on with his striking, sending Ramirez’ back to the ropes, but the gritty Yaw-yan Buhawi fighter answered back with his own striking arsenal launching a variety of strikes such as spinning back fists and spinning kicks even with his back against the ropes. It was a close fight in my opinion, with the Chinese also landing clean blows despite not being able to take full advantage of his size against the smaller Ramirez. The fight went the distance and ended up with a decision win in favor of the URCC debutant Fei Guo Lin.

URCC 22: Eduard “Landslide” Folayang AimsTo Stay Unbeaten Inside The URCC Ring

tynanes vs folayang

Two explosive and exciting MMA fighters are set to clash when undefeated Filipino MMA icon Eduard “Landslide” Folayang (12-2-0) squares off against Lowen Tynanes (3-0) at URCC 22 “DEKADA” on Saturda, December 1, 2012 at the SM Arena in Manila, Philippines.

There’s no doubt that Eduard Folayang is one of the biggest MMA stars in Asia, while Lowen Tynanes is a hungry up-and-coming fighter whose slowly making his name in this awesome sport of mixed martial arts.

Both fighters are hoping to secure another victory and increase their stock on both the local and national scene.

Fighting out of one of the best MMA teams in Asia, Team Lakay,  Folayang has shown glimpses of stardom dating back to his days as a Sanshou fighter. Since turning professional in MMA in June of 207, Folayang has gone undefeated over the first five fights of his career.

Improving each and every time, Folayang displayed his best performance against Feilpe Enomoto at ONE FC 5 – Pride of a Nation. The strikes were pinpoint, the pressure was persistent, and the game plan was nearly perfect in unanimous decision win over Enomoto.

Folayang is on a tough challenge on Saturday as he takes on one of the best prospects to ever come out o Hawaii. Training out of Team Tynanes, Lowen has emerged as one of the most exciting and dangerous lightweights within the state.

Lowen has an impressive 15-0 record as an amateur, two-time National Highschool Wrestler All-American, two-time Hawaii Highschool State Wrestling Champion and he is the 808 Battleground Champion.

When Folayang and Tynanes collide at URCC “Dekada”, much will become known about both men’s talent and potential. The strategies that each fighter deploys should be telling towards their capabilities due to the challenges the other presents.

Striking and wrestling have been the bread and butter for Folayang in his previous bouts. However, Tynanes will have a slight height and reach advantage as well a dangerous submission game once the fight hits the ground.

URCC 22 “Dekada” will also feature a featherweight bout between undefeated MMA featherweight fighter Eric “The Natural” Kelly (8-0) and Bradd Terrey.

Two more Filipino fighters will try to get the W against their foreign foes as URCC middleweight champion Froilan Sarenas (3-1) will go up against Rodrigo Praxedes (1-1), while Reysaldo “Onyok” Transmonte (2-2) faces Hideo “Death from Tokyo” Morikawa (4-1).

Transmonte vs. Morikawa Primer

Although URCC 22 may feature bouts with more nationally recognizable names, the Super Fight pitting of Folayang versus Tynanes may be one of the most exciting match-ups. Expect an unpredictable tangle that will shake out the SM  Arena.

URCC 21 Results: Mann decisions Sarenas, Doliguez scored his second win, Chope calls out Sapno after submitting Manguray

Universal Reality Combat Championship showed once again why they are the longest and biggest MMA promotion in the Philippines.

Most of the fights at URCC 21: WARPATH ended in either a submission or TKO. The atmosphere at the SMX Convention Center was unbelievable as the crowd once again, played a big role in the very successful URCC 21.

In the main event, Nicholas Mann proved to us that size advantage can really help you get the win. The Australian born fighter looked very sharp against Sarenas, showing his speed, power and accuracy over the smaller Filipino fighter. Erwin Tagle, a close friend and trainer of Sarenas told us that his fighter was quite distracted by a foot injury he sustained during practice, “Sarenas did not pursue to take Mann down because every time Sarenas attempts for a take down, he is feeling the pain in his foot. He can’t change levels that’s why Sarenas rarely shoots in for takedown.”

In my opinion, it was an awesome fight. Kudos to both guys who agreed to take this fight and showed us a very exciting contest.

In the co-main event, Doliguez made a statement that he really deserved a title shot against the current URCC pinweight king, Roy “The Punisher” Docyogen, by beating a very versatile fighter in Alvin Ramirez.

Doliguez displayed his boxing prowess in the first minutes of the fight, throwing heavy body shots and uppercuts to the 22-year-old Ramirez. Doliguez became more dangerous when he started connecting heavy leg kicks to the much younger fighter.

There are few times where Ramirez scored some good take downs, but Doliguez backs up easily. The 27-year-old Doliguez showed that he is really working hard to improve his grappling game.

We had the chance to talk to Doliguez hours before his fight with Ramirez and he told us that he will going to throw not only heavy punches, but also more heavier and stronger kicks, “You will see me throwing a lot of heavy kicks and punces later, I’m very confident that I will win this fight, I am the more stronger and more athletic than Ramirez, after this fight, I am hoping to fight Docyogen for the title. I know I have all the tools to beat him.” added Doliguez.

I am really impressed with Doliguez’ perfomance last Saturday, he looked very sharp, dangerous and extremely huge. I think Doliguez is ready for a title shot. I mean, his fighting style against Docyogen’s is a good recipe for an insane pinweight championship contest. If that fight happens, it will surely be an unforgettable night of fast-paced, bone-breaking, heart-stopping mixed martial arts fight!

Speaking of an unforgettable fight, Will “The Kill” Chope booked his arguably most memorable win to date against the ever-dangerous Angelito “The Saint” Manguray. The Kill improved his mma record to  10-5 (wins-losses) and recorded his 5th straight win in  just 4 months.

The 22-year-old Chope came out very aggressive against the 45-year-old Manguray in the early seconds of the first round, utilizing his massive reach advantage to top Manguray.

After finishing Manguray via rear naked choke, Chope calls out the current URCC featherweight champion, Ricardo Sapno. Let’s see if URCC will give him a title shot, which I think he really deserve.

Here are the fight results of URCC 21: WARPATH
