After making history in Manila, ONE Fighting Championship is poised to stage another gigantic event in the beautiful island of Singapore on October 6, 2012 that will showcase three world championship fights in the lightweight, featherweight and bantamweight divisions.
ONE FC has been very successful in their past events, giving MMA fans some world-class fights and signing some of the biggest names in the business. They’ve also managed to help Asian MMA back to the top as the Singapore-based promotion is gaining a lot of respect not only in Asia, but also around the globe.
In their next event, ONE FC 6 “Rise of Kings”, one of Asia’s greatest MMA fighters, Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki will finally make his ONE FC debut against a very durable and exciting warrior in Arnaud “The Game” Lepont in a battle where many believed will be one of the most exciting fights in ONE FC history.
Aside from the confirmed bout between Aoki and Lepont, there are several fighters who also agreed to fight on the said event.
Melvin “No Mercy” Manhoef’s ONE FC debut last March has resulted to a very unfortunate outcome; he sustained a very ugly cut on his shin that forced the referee to stop the fight and was ruled a “no contest” match. Manhoef is hungry to get back inside the ONE FC cage because he wants to prove that he can beat some top guys in his division. Although his opponent is yet to be announced, Manhoef is training hard to show his fans that he belongs to Asia’s biggest MMA promotion. Before he will make his second appearance in ONE FC, “No Mercy” is set to fight Jay Young Kim first in Road FC against a heavy-handed Jae Young Kim on September 15, 2012 in South Korea.
Evolve MMA’s Zorobabel “Zoro” Moreira will also make his 3rd ONE FC appearance as he takes on a TBA opponent. Moreira in my opinion is no doubt, one of the best lightweight fighters in Asia. The Brazilian is on a five-fight win streak and has been very successful in his recent fights in ONE FC as he stopped all of his oppnents impressively, including his recent K.O win over former UFC lightweight contender, Roger “El Matador” Huerta via soccer kick in the second round. I want to see “Zoro” fighting for the title with either Folayang or Laursen.
Right after Folayang beat Enomoto last Friday in Pride of a Nation; Victor Cui announced in front of the much pumped Filipino crowd that their hometown hero will be fighting in Singapore on Ocotber 6th for the inaugural ONE FC lightweight championship.
[update] I just saw Eduard Folayang being interviewed in one of the biggest TV networks in the Philippines on Tuesday, September 4th and he just said that he will fight Moreira for the lightweight title in Singapore on October 6th. But I guess it’s still not official unless Victor Cui will confirms it.
The only championship fight that is only confirmed by ONE FC is a fight between two Filipino fighters, Eric “The Natural” Kelly and Honorio “The Rock” Banario. Both guys are fresh from their very impressive victories in ONE FC 6 in Manila.
Banario looked very sharp on his recent with recent outing against fellow Filipino fighter, Andrew Benibe. Banario displayed his much improved boxing skills against Benibe, who seemed to be a little intimidated on Banario’s reach. In the end, Banario gets his hand raised as he stopped Benibe in the third via TKO. Banario improved his pro mma record to 7-1 and made himself as one of the two participants who will battle it out for the first-ever ONE FC featherweight championship.
Eric Kelly will be Banario’s opponent for the featherweight title. Kelly impressed a lot of fans around the world when he dismantled the former UFC lightweight champion, Jens “little evil” Pulver in the second round. Kelly is very strong, agile and very motivated to be the first ONE FC featherweight champion, but Honorio Banario has the same goal as him, to become the best in their division and to become an MMA champion.
There’s no doubt that his fight will get the “Fight of the night” honors as these two young warrios will try to make history.
Another rumored title fight is set for ONE FC 6 as bantamweight phenoms, Leandro “Brodinho” Issa will take on a highly-decorated young Korean fighter, Soo Chul Kim.
Leandro Issa is probably one of the scariest bantamweights outside the UFC. “Brodinho” is a BJJ blackbelt who is also very confident on his feet. Issa is on a tear right now winning four of his last five fights eighter via TKO or submission. Issa is another product of the largest MMA gym in Asia, Evolve MMA. His recent win with the legendary Japanese fighter, Masakazu “Ashikan Judan” Imanari just made him one of the most feared fighters in his division.
Issa’s oppnent is Korea’s Soo Chul Kim. He maybe young, but he always fight like he’s been in the business for a long time. I mean this kid is very talented and smart, he always follow their gameplan and the most scary part of this kid; he is just entering his prime. Kim has silenced all of his doubters when he beat the no. 1 bantamweight fighter in the Philippines, Kevin “Silencer” Belingon via unanimous decision. I think we just saw a new version of Kim when he fought Belingon. He is crisp in his punches and kicks and he also improved his strength as he repeatedly took Belingon down in their fight.
According to MMAWeekly.com, Brian Choi, Mitch Chilson and Radeem Rahman will also fight in ONE FC “Rise of Kings”.
“The Polar Bear” Choi made his promotion debut against Arnaud “The Game” Lepont at ONE FC 4 last July 23 but lost the fight via 3rd round submission. He is now eager to get back inside the cage to prove that he belongs to the best lightweights in Asia. Choi’s opponent is yet to be determined.
There’s no time to rest for Mitch “The Dragon” Chilson. After a “no contest” fight with Shannon Waratchai last Friday, the Singapore-based American fighter is back at Evolve MMA to train for his next fight at ONE FC “Rise of Kings”. His opponent is yet to be announced, but I think it will be a rematch with Wiratchai.
Singapore’s very first pro MMA fighter, Radeem Rahman will be making his second ONE FC appearance. Although his opponent is yet to be announced, he is so excited and proud to represent his country in Asia’s largest MMA promotion. Radeem made his ONE FC debut a year ago, against an Indian karate champion, Susovan Gosh. Rahman overwhelmed Gosh by his reach and height advantage and stopped Gosh in the 1st round.
I personally can’t wait to see this card because I think it has all the elements to become one of the best MMA events in the history of Asian MMA.
Stay tuned for the latest updates about this gigantic event.
