Legend FC 7 Undercard review and predictions

Legend Fighting Championship (Legend) yesterday announced its plans to broadcast the Legend 7 preliminary fights live on its YouTube channel.

Legend 7 will take place Saturday, February 11, at the City of Dreams, Macau’s premier integrated entertainment resort. The free live stream of the undercard will begin at 4:30 PM Macau time (8:30AM GMT) and will be available worldwide, with the exception of Macau and Hong Kong.

The YouTube broadcast of the undercard is part of Legend’s re-launch of its YouTube channel. Originally a platform primarily for short-form content and promotional clips, Legend’s channel will feature full fights from past Legend events, “best of” highlights videos, and behind-the-scenes footage.

Preview and Predictions:

Sung Ming Yen (2-0) Vs. Agustin Delarmino Jr. (4-1-0):

This is an exciting match up between the two prospects in Legend FC’s Bantamweight division.  A highly decorated striker from Philippines, Agustin Delarmino Jr., taking on Chinese Taipei’s rising mma icon Sung Ming “Sam” Yen.

This will be Agustin’s Legend FC debut and his first mma fight outside the Philippines. Because of this, many fight fans are expecting a very good performance from this kid.

Looking to spoil Agustin Delarmino’s Legend FC debut is Sung Ming Yen, a Legend FC 5 winner against Hong Kong’s Vincent Siu via Rear Naked Choke is now looking for his second victory inside LFC ring against the very dangerous Filipino striker.

My Prediction: Delarmino via TKO

Mark Striegl (6-0) Vs. Ev Ting (3-0):

Mark “Mugen” Striegl‘s original opponent, Choi Yeong Gwang got injured due to a knee injury he sustained seven days before Legend FC 7. Stepping in for Choi’s place is Ev Ting, a kiwi fighter who’s coming off an impressive 2nd round TKO victory over Strielg’s training buddy, Will “The Kill” Chope last January 28 in New Zealand.

I think this fight won’t go the distance because both fighters are very dangerous on their feet and on the ground. Ting obviously has a power on his hands but the kiwi should fight smart and keep the fight standing feet because as soon as Striegl shoots for the takedown and gets his back, it will surely be a short night for him.

My Prediction: Mark Striegl via Submission

Koji Ando (5-3-2) Vs. Damien Brown (5-3-0):

Koji Ando made his Legend FC debut against an undefeated Chinese fighter Wang Guan at Legend 6. After a back and forth battle between the two welterweight fighters, the judges gave the split decision win to Wang Guan. The bout caused much controversy due to many believe Ando had actually won the fight.

Damien Brown is eager to get back to his winning ways after suffering a TKO loss to Patrick Iodice three months ago. Brown is another product of Australia’s top MMA team, Integrated MMA.

Expect Brown to be more aggressive than Ando, but he must be cautious about Ando’s left straight because the Japanese is working hard for the previous months to improve his striking game. Ando also got some good takedowns in his arsenal and he will surely use it against Brown to take him down and throw some wicked GNP.

Both fighters are evenly matched but I’m giving the edge to Ando due to his wrestling skills.

My Prediction: Koji Ando via UD

Taiyo Nakahara (12-6-0) Vs. Michael Mortimer (15-4-0)

Taiyo Nakahara is a Sengoku veteran with a good ground game and cardio. Nakahara is making his Legend FC debut against on of the best bantamweight fighters from Australia, Michael “Mick” Mortimer.

Mortimer is coming off from a very impressive submission victory over Filipino fighter Ereneo Galindez at Legend 6. He is now looking to cement his place as the no. 2 contender for the Legend FC’s bantamweight division.

Both fighters are on a roll, Nakahara is on a four fight win streak, while the Aussie is on a three fight win streak. But on February 11th, only one fighter will continue his winning streak and the other will go back to the drawing board.

My Prediciton: Mortimer via UD

Ji Xian (3-0-0) Vs. Leonard Delarmino (3-1-0)

It will be an all out war between the two Legend FC newcomers as Filipino prospect Leonard Delarmino will go up against top Chinese MMA fighter Ji Xian.

Leonard Delarmino is an accomplished muay thai fighter who is one of the precision strikers in Filipino MMA. He will try to bounce back from his unanimous decision loss in the hands of Rex Delara on October of 2011. Leonard, together with his brother Augustin and Mark Striegl will be the Philippines’ representative at Legend FC 7.

Ji Xian has a Sanda background that makes him dangerous on his feet but he has also developed a reputation as one of China’s best grapplers. With an undefeated record 3-0, all of Xian’s victories are by way of submissions and all of them are only in the first round.

This fight has a big chance of getting either fight of the night or submission of the night honors.

I’m giving the advantage to Ji Xian because I think he is more dangerous on the ground than Delarmino. But this is MMA, everything can happen at anytime.

My Prediction: Ji Xian via Submission
